Quilt + pillows = quillows!

I've always loved things that transformed into something else. Like popples. Loved them. Reversible bags? Great (as long as there were pockets). When I first heard about quillows, I remember thinking hmm... sounds interesting. I think I just like words that start with "Q". But a quillow is basically half quilt, half quillow. My friend Holly taught a bunch of us how to make quillows last weekend, and I finally finished it last night. So unfortunately for you, I wasn't really in a photo taking mood this morning, so here is what you get:
Quillow pillow form
Pillow form
Quillow natural state
Quilt form (in it's natural state)
Quillow foot pocket
The best part about this is that you sew a pocket to the bottom so you can turn it inside out and stuff the quilt inside. But it doubles as a foot pocket. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's made from a single cut of fabric. While that makes it easy, it makes the quilt fairly narrow. About 41" for me. My dad already requested that I add on to the sides. Does anyone have a good technique for that? I think I'm just going to graft on some super narrow quilts to the side....

I don't have a solution as I've not made a quillow before but I do have a tiny idea to consider that I used in making my Halloween purse. You said the quillow is made from one piece of fabric. Why not seam two pieces of fabric together to make it wider/longer or whatever you need and then adjusting the pattern to accommodate that change? Then you could make your quillow whatever size you want. Just a thought.

Anyway, it looks great and I'm sure will be enjoyed.

Haha, thanks June! I thought of that in retrospect, but I want to make this specific one a little wider. For future quillows I will definitely seam together a couple pieces of fabric before I make the quilt portion.

Hmmm...I wish I had a suggestion/solution. Really I just wanted to say, "I want a quillow!" I'm going to make one. Wait and see. You've inspired me...

I too am a big fan of the popples.

And now the quillows. Will add that to the already ridiculously long list of projects.

I have been wanting to make a quillow, too. A baby sized quillow would be agreat for traveling with the baby. Thanks for showing us yours.

I made quillows about a dozen years ago... fun and quick, but yes, narrow. I would think if you made a bigger pocket, then wider and longer would work too... like you said... just seam together more fabric.

I made quillows many years ago. 27 of them for Christmas to be exact! LOL I worked for a curtain factory and was given tons of fabric. soooooooo.........I made quillows. I made a quilt type pattern with a solid back but made the pillow exactly 1/3 of the width. so if you want to make larger, your pillow would be larger. 20inch pillow makes a 60 x 80 quilt top. see? not so hard.
have fun!

I've made a few quillows, and absolutely love them! I use fleece for the back side, and quilt blocks for the front. Since fleese is wider (I think 60"?)it makes a nice size quillow. And, it's SO soft!
