Here is the completed skirt I promised to show. Overall I think it's just ok. I have an idea for my next skirt that I'm super excited about. No more of this drawstring nonsense. I don't think I'm a fan of the ginormous hole that you step into and then cinch up. Plus then you have to neatly distribute the gathers. Too much work. I'd rather put in a zipper or something. Anyway, I drafted my own pattern using Sew What! Skirts.
A (too bright) close up of the fabrics. The whale fabric is from my stash. Love it, but I can never find a good use for it.
In other exciting news, my first sampler subscription came! Here are some of my favorites... I will eventually add notes to flickr on what they are. LOVE the iron on octopus.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the huge "step into a big hole" concept. When I get the chance, I think I'm going to pull out the drawstring and replace it with an elastic and then sew some ribbon to to tie a fake bow.
I agree about using elastic or a zipper as opposed to the drawstring concept. The fabrics you used for your skirt are pretty and I really like the colors. I really need to get the book you mentioned as I keep seeing projects folks are making that stem from the book. I'll also have to check out this sampler business you mentioned as I'm not familiar with that but it looks like you received some really fun things.
LOVE the skirt. Nicely done!
